A rain head is a device installed under a gutter or downpipe. Its purpose is to deflect leaves and other large debris from entering the water tank. It also keeps mosquitoes and other vermin out.
A rain head must be installed at a level that is higher than the inlet to the tank, so that gravity will feed water into the tank easily. There are several different types of rain heads. The most popular of these is the self-cleaning type; it features slanted mesh to deflect debris.
